CO2 Performance Ladder

The CO2 Performance Ladder is a sustainability tool that helps companies and governments reduce carbon emissions within the organisation, in projects and in the business sector. The 5-level Ladder is used as a CO2 management system and as a procurement instrument.

Significance has set level 3 certification as its goal for 2024. This means that we have a clear picture of our emissions and energy use and have linked ambitious reduction targets to concrete measures.

We have mapped out our CO2 emissions for the year 2023; this year serves as a reference year. The CO2 emissions inventory shows that Significance’s emissions in 2023 were already at a very low level. Despite not having a defined CO2 policy in 2023, our CO2 emissions within the scope of the CO2 Performance Ladder were only 14.4 tonnes, or 0.84 tonnes of CO2 per FTE. This is partly due to an energy-efficient office, centrally located in The Hague, with excellent accessibility by bicycle and public transport.

Our ambitions for the coming years consist of further reducing our emissions and energy consumption. Our goal for 2033 is to reduce emissions per FTE by 30% compared to 2023. Business air travel is the main source of our emissions. Therefore, our policy is to fly only when there is no reasonable alternative. By 2025, we aim to map our electricity use in detail to find more reduction opportunities.
