CO2 Performance Ladder

Significance aims to minimise the environmental impact of its operations. To achieve this, we annually monitor our CO₂ emissions and actively work to reduce them. We use the CO2 Performance Ladder, a sustainability instrument that helps companies and public authorities reduce CO₂ emissions and costs in their operations, projects, and supply chains. The Ladder is used both as a CO₂ management system and as a procurement instrument.

Since 2024, Significance has been certified at Level 3 of the CO₂ Performance Ladder. This means that we have a clear understanding of our emissions and energy consumption, and that we have linked ambitious reduction targets to concrete measures. Our ambition is to reduce our CO₂ emissions per employee by 30% by 2033 compared to 2023.

In 2025, Significance’s total CO₂ emissions amounted to 19.0 tonnes of CO₂. These emissions consisted almost entirely of office heating and business travel.

The largest share of our CO₂ emissions is caused by air travel. In 2025, we worked more frequently for international clients and participated in conferences outside Europe, resulting in a higher number of flight kilometres than in previous years. Many of these destinations are not realistically accessible by train. Wherever possible, we choose digital meetings and international rail travel as alternatives to flying.

Our office operates entirely on 100% renewable electricity. In addition, we continue to improve the sustainability of our energy use and actively monitor opportunities for further reductions. In 2025, the building switched to an aquifer thermal energy storage system (ATES) for heating and cooling, making the 2024 and 2025 energy figures less directly comparable.

Despite the higher emissions in 2025, our CO₂ footprint per employee remains relatively low. Commuting by our employees is also highly sustainable: 98% of commuting trips are made by bicycle or public transport.

We remain committed to further reducing our CO₂ emissions by critically assessing business travel, making use of digital meeting options, reducing energy consumption, and actively participating in sustainability initiatives within our sector.
